Default What is the symptom for micro switch failure in the pot box?

My pot meter seems to be working properly ( by ohm test) but my cart stops completely when the accelerator is pressed all the way down. After i reset, and feather it, it goes slowly and does not die. It only dies when i press the acc all the way down. The reverse works fine. I 'm beginning to think it's my speed control unit. Any thoughts?

My cart is 05' with vin# 6ED 35126 E5

Any help would be appreciated.

Thx,

Which controller is in the unit? Generally dying when you go full throttle can be just low batteries and the system draw suddendly shuts it down. You might want to do a good battery test under load.

Hi Tech,

Thanks for the reply.
My cart is original so maybe you could tell me which controller i have. :)

How do i do the battery test under load?
The battery is relatively new, well, 3 year old trojan gel type, but it does get hot here in Vegas.

Thanks again

YOU HAVE A MICRO SWITCH IN YOUR POT BOX?

What does it do, turn on a light so you can see how much you're getting out?

My EZGO doesn't have a pot box.

Sorry, couldn't resist the urge.

The VIN records are incomplete from 2005. Could be an alltrax (blue/white), a sevcon (blue/silver) or cmc (all silver). It will say on the controller.

You would either have to purchase a load tester, or borrow a friend and a volt meter. Charge the pack, then drive around for 10 minutes or so. Then measure each battery. They should all be within .2 volts of each other. Then, have your trusted friend press on the brake and the accelerator to put a draw on the pack, and again measure each battery. (Some would just jack up the back end and allow the wheels to free spin, which is an option, but doesn't put quite the load on the pack). If any are too low, you will be replacing your batteries.

CAUTION> Don't do this method very long, as damage to the motor commutator or fields can occur showing a stall drive. You're best bet would be to check no more than two batteries, then move the vehicle a bit to allow the motor to revolve.
