Default G16 requires choke to start/run. How fix?

Hi:

I have a 1999 Yamaha G16, gas, obviously, that requires the use of the choke to not only start but keep running for the first 5 minutes or so, after which the cart runs fine. This occurs even during warm weather. A friend has an early 1990s Club Car that cranks right up when the gas pedal is pushed and runs without the use of the choke.

Any remedy?

Thanks

Pat

Hi:

Yes, the cart still has the original airbox. Engine is completely stock (unmodified). New airfilter and the box is sealed tight. I read that the valves may need adjusting.

Well, why not adjust the valves....(.004 in.) "Cold". My first thougt would be to "pull" the Carb and really clean it. Let us know your findings. Dave

Remember "GP" he has a G16 , not G2/G9/G8/G14...G16's have studs out of the cylinder head and the manifold/carb/air cleaner "silde" onto these studs. Could be 1 of the 3 gaskets are bad or missing ? Dave
