Default radio fades out

I've installed a Pyle 12 V radio in my 2006 Yamaha G22 (electric 48V) along with a 36-48 V voltage converter. At a standstill, everything works fine. As I depress the accelerator, the radio fades out until I remove my foot from the accelerator. Then everything is OK. What is causing me to lose that much "juice" that the voltage converter can't keep up with it?
