Re: Wiring size question
The more strands the more efficient the wire is. Because of eddy currents you never get to use 100% of the wire because it pushes the electricity to the outside of the wire. By adding more strands it allows you to use more of the wire. I believe but I'm not sure.... Welding cable can carry more amps. But that part I'm not sure of.

Re: Wiring size question
Bert, you are on the right track. yes the power usually carries on the outer edge of the conductor, the more conductors the more power you can carry. welding cable is also designed for short sharp burst of power over and over again. it'salso has durable flexible jacket allowing for a lot of the movement you would have with a welder. I picked up 1awg cable and have had no issues so far. 1 or 2 will hold up to just about anything you will run in a cart.

I ordered copper terminal lugs and solidered them in place. I got my ends from Del-city.

Re: Wiring size question
I went the bulk route. I got 3 25' pieces of 1awg for $25.(ebay snipe) and then bought all the ends from del-city for .66 each. I bought 40. I had the solider and used 3m Linerles weather tape to wrap the ends, ended up with enough to cable 2 carts for about 60 bucks.
