Default Carb settings RXV

I have just purchased a RXV serial # 5012175, It backfires when you accelerate and runs on when you turn of the key, I think someone as messed with the carb setting any ideas?

Not sure on carts but with cars that would be a symptom of timing being off

Sounds like someone moved the governor adjustment so far the throttle plate isn't closing allowing raw fuel in the system with no spark.. Soon as you touch the pedal it goes boom.. I would start by checking your throttle cable where it attaches to the governor and see if there is any slack. If not it is too tight.

While on the subject of governor, the cart I am working on doesn't have it hooked up , I guess when previous guy working on it pulled the carb he cut the governor cable . It runs pretty good , a little lacking on power but how else will it affect it not being hooked up .

That is what I thought . Even with it off the cart still tops out at about 13 mph . Feels kinda sluggish hate to see how it is when I hook it back up

If it is topping out at 13 with no gov it has issues. You may want to start a new thread on it..

Did that &bat the same time I noticed the choke cable was tight so I backed that off but now it only starts /runs if the choke is pulled out 1/2 " does it need to be half shut to run?

I would start by cleaning the carb. It should start and idle with no choke.
