Exclamation What do I need to take when trail riding?

If your going to be trail riding away from home and civilization for a day or so, here's some things to remember to bring along your ride to make it better and safer:

1. First Aid Kit
2. Battery charger/starter
3. Air pump or small compressor
4. Tire repair kit, valve stem cores, couple of extra lug nuts if you have them
5. Tow rope or cable
6. Roll of electrical tape, fuses
7. Extra set of belts (old ones you've replaced will do, anything to get you back)
8. Extra spark plug, fuel filter, and small section of fuel line
9. Extra gallon or so of gas and quart of oil
10. Small assortment of tools to repair minor mechanical issues
11. Flash light, knife, lighter
12. Goggles and sunglasses, riding gloves, extra pair of socks, rain poncho
13. Important: Dust masks!! (the cheap paper ones that are used for painting or mowing will do great)
14. GPS, map, cell phone with a local number where your riding (most places have a contact or emergency number at the trail head: stop and get it before riding)

Most of the items like tools, fuses, flashlight, belts, tire kit, etc... can fit into a medium plastic toolbox. Get one that seals and will be waterproof if possible.

Some helpful ideas:

Wear a helmet! I can't stress this enough and I'm as bad as the next person about taking it off and leaving it off. They will save your life!!

Wear water proof boots. Snake boots are the best! This is important. Not only will they keep your feet dry but they will protect your feet and shins from the elements.

Put things like napkins, rags, socks, cell phone, whatever you can, in zip lock bags where applicable.

If your running your water cooled ATV in mud and it overheats due to the radiator vents getting clogged and your no where near any water, take a bottle of bottled water, puncture a slit in the top, and squeeze it onto the radiator and spray out the mud. Poring water over it will more than likely fail, you'll need to spray it out. Using the bottled water trick described above will be more effective.

That is a great list!
Thanks.

I finally got my winch mounted on the front.

I'm ready.

Oh, still need some rubber boots, waders?

Great list! The only thing I would add is a Billed Hat of some sort.

If you have to walk back out due to a major break down, it'll help keep sunburn down and shade your eyes so you can spot help and / or dangers faster.

Fire extinguisher. Caught mine on fire after a rollover last weekend. Battery came out of its holder and sparked on something I guess. I got it put out with a couple of shaken up miller lites. Drove it back out of the woods so it wasn't that bad but stilled sucked. Had to sacrifice beer.
