Cutting and mounting the charger.

Pick a spot inward enough on the panel to clear the edge of the metal opening in the dash. This charger requires a 1 1/4" hole.

Once the hole is cut, there's some plastic ribbing on the back of the Moke's panel that needs to be removed so the nut lays flat. This is easily removed with a Dremel.

A little Tesa tape to protect the wiring and this part is done.

Fuse is still removable and the red wire will be cut during final install. The black wire works perfectly with the pre-installed ring terminal.

Speakers arrived today. Polk DB6502 marine separates.

I don't want to jinx myself but, from the measurements I took, these have a nearly perfect hole pattern so I might not have any metal cutting or drilling into the Moke. Being at the beach, I really don't want to break the paint.

Have a vacation coming up so I'll know in a couple weeks when I get back there.

Got the charger wired in - used the bolt from the old radio as the neutral. Works perfectly (voltage display does not show in the pictures).

Polk speakers could not have been a better fit. The hole pattern was an exact match for both the woofer and the tweeter mounts. No cutting and no drilling. Used the original screws from the factory speakers. Will change to black screws later.

Sound quality of these speakers is dramatically better. Range is wider, bass is much better, there is no distortion up to full volume with the Fusion head unit.

Very happy I switched the speakers!

Thanks for the very detailed post. I purchased the Fusion with accompanying 6.5in speakers. About to install, but not sure about some of the wires. It looks like there are are few unknown wires that I will be left with. I see where the white wire (the 12V wire) goes to the red hot wire on the new wiring harnesses and obviously the black goes to the ground, but there are a few other wires that in the vehicle that don’t have a home. The blue (ANT), blue/white (no idea) and purple and white (Looks to be ACC per the old head unit) wires. Do you know it they attach to the new wiring harness?

Any help would be great.
Thank you very much.

These (attached screenshot) were the only wires I used for my install and everything works. I wouldn't be surprised if Moke America to have different wiring harnesses but hopefully yours is the same.

Fwiw, all information I found online for that head unit was really different. They had removed the factory wiring sticker from the radio and it forced me to just start cutting and testing. You really only need power, ground, antenna, and speakers.

I ran into another Moke the other day and wow, it sounded bad with the system I replaced.

Do you have any pics of the final install? I’m trying to figure out what is the correct fuse to use and what is the correct part to purchase from Amazon. Thank you!
