Default 1982 G1 gas engine

My 82 G1 developed a rattle about four months ago. It runs great, but I just had it to the Yami shop and was told that everything in the engine was wore out and could not be rebuilt. The engine has next to no compression, but runs like a dream. I plan on running it until it blows, but am looking for a replacement engine in the mean time. Does anyone know where I could find a good used engine for an 82? I know they are rare.

I've never seen an engine that has no compression run great. Is it hard starting?
Have you done a compression test yourself?
Might be worth a trip to Sears for a tester and verify the numbers.
Consider taking the drive clutch cover off and check it for any issues that would cause the noises.

Second opinion maybe?

82 means its getting old but we don't know the history, Crash is right $40 dollars to test it your self and then decide what to do. Make a stethoscope out of a coat hanger and find the source of the rattle. Play with it for a while and you will be amazed at what you hear.

No it is not hard to start. just pull the choke out, get it rolling and push it back in. Starts every time in less than ten seconds. It does smoke pretty bad after fifteen minutes.

the smoke is just the muffler geting hot and burning the oil out nothing to worry about the rattling could be a lot of things.
