EzGo gas 1997 TXT - To Rebuild or not?
I have been given a 97 gas txt. However, it was ran out of oil until it seized up. Then was filled with oil and loosened enough to run for a little while. I am assuming the issue is with the pistons. The rockers and everything work and try and start the engine to no avail. Is it worth taking apart? This would be my first break down of an engine other than a 9.9 outboard.
Any would be appreciated. |

Whats the rest of it like, if you have a good cart, then it would be worth replacing the engine, if everything else needs to be rebuilt or refurbished, it may be more work and cost tan what its worth.
But then you can always use it to make a cart trailer. Got any picture? |

Very unfortunately the crank shaft in this cart has no replaceable wear surfaces. So it's pretty much a one time use engine and this one is done for.
Think upgrade- find a V-twin that suits it. |

Well that's depressing. Everything else on the cart is fine including a nice lift kit and tires. Was hoping it would be something fixable. Only have 500 ish to spend on this project.

It may not be that bad. If you have a good cart, then you will only improve the value with a new engine and wont be upside down on it. Keep checking eBay and Craigslist for a good used engine. Post in the wanted section here what you are looking for, you may be able to find something that will keep you in your budget.

Re: EzGo gas 1997 TXT - To Rebuild or not?
So when it was running for a short time was it knocking?
If it did not knock and you are on a budget it maybe worth opening up and re ringing. Now that it will not start what is the compression on both cylinders?? Look into the cylinders and verify both pistons are going up an down. These are known for throwing rods. Edit I have not messed with ezgos run out of oil but many other engines. 90% of the engines i have seen run out of oil the rods and crank are shot. But that 10% had melted pistons and or burnt rings and the bottom ends were just fine. On motorcycle engines usually the bottom ends are good but the cam shafts and head are shot. |

Both pistons seem to be moving up and down. One makes a sound like a dieing chipmonk. No idea on knocking wasn't around when it past ran.

Looks like you have a great base to start with, I'd say it would be very much worth rebuilding, even if it does run a little over your budget.
