Does my controller need to be re programmed
Hello all! I have done a lot of searches but have not seen the answer I seek. I have a curtis 500a 1268 controller with a stock motor. I am considering an AMD 7144 motor for it. Can anyone tell me for sure if the controller will have to be re programmed or can I just swap the stock motor out and call it a day?
Thanks in advance! |

Re: Does my controller need to be re programmed
Can you JUST install the new motor and call it a day?
SURE you can.... BUT don't be surprised if you don't reach the potential that the new motor is capable of... Who did you buy your Curtis 1268 from? I bought my 1268 from FSIP and they asked me plenty of questions as to tire height, gear ratios, motor model and type of terrain in order to program the controller so that it would play nicely with my motor. So if your going from a stock motor to an HP motor you can likely consider that the controller is programmed to limit amp output to suit the stock motor.... |

Re: Does my controller need to be re programmed
I purchased the controller from tahoe. We talked about it some time ago but can't remember what he told me about it. Maybe that he wasn't sure about it, can't remember now. But that is why I am posting the question. No need to spend the money on it if the controller needs to be re programmed to spin the new motor properly without spending the money to re program the controller.

Re: Does my controller need to be re programmed
Best to involve David on this as I can only make assumptions that the controller may have been programmed with limits by someone in order for it work with a stock motor....

Re: Does my controller need to be re programmed
I was looking at the 1268 online. I had a few questions also. It has a separate connector for the speed sensor. Would I need a new speed sensor for the 1268 with a 6 pin plug? Or would I need a complete new wiring harness? Or maybe it wouldn't work with the old precedents. Or maybe this is for the PH models.

Re: Does my controller need to be re programmed
The controller needs to be programmed (field mapped) for any particular motor you put in the cart. FSIP has a huge library of field maps for several different motors. I can email them and get the exact information you need, but you're going to have to use a Curtis handheld scan tool to enter the settings into your controller.

Hi David! Hoped you would jump in. Would you happen to have one of those handheld gizmo's?
