Default electric motor temp. gauge?

Besides the ex-ray that's more than 200 dollars are there any other motor temp. sensors? Has anyone made there own? Thanks for the help.

You can buy a handheld laser aimed temp probe.

Ask your neighbors, you might be surprised. Lotsa slumlords use them.

Yeah I had looked into doing that but I was hoping to have something on the dash that would let me know while I was driving.

Some fairly inexpensive DMMs have a temperature function.
Just attach the thermocouple to the motor case with electrical tape or place a small piece of foam rubber over it and use tie-wraps.
Might not work well for continuous monitoring, but should be okay for spot checking after climbing a hill, high speed run or hard acceleration since the motor won't cool off very fast.

Check out this thread. Cheaper than the ex-ray but still might be more than you want to spend. http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/elect...h-striker.html
