295 only runs when choked. Carb upgrade?

was bouncing around fairly hard in the cart this weekend and now the cart only runs with the choke pulled out. Im assuming this is due to sediment that was in the tank getting stirred up and sucked into the carb. I may be wrong though. any one else had this issue? also I was told a 350 carb would give this engine more power. I always thought the carbs were the same. any input? thanks

ordered whole new 295 carb

Probably dirt shaken loose.

that's what im thinking. ill put new one in and clean the other one for backup

I had the same issue with my '01 TXT last year. I was able to clean it up and it was fine. By "it" I mean carb, tank and filter. It had me wondering at the time about putting in a Mikuni carb due to similar issues that others have had with difficulty starting, particularly when cold outside. I will be searching past threads to see if anyone has ever put on a different style carb. I'm sure it has been done. Sounds like you are all set with your two carbs now.

I bought my 86 marathon gas it did not run without choke sometimes it would not run at all. The prior owner did not seem to have a clue. He had disabled the governor by removing the plastic cover. To solve the choking issue he had replaced the carb, fuel pump, and ignition coil before he gave up and bought another cart.

When was going through the cart to sort out the problem, I found that the cylinder was moving against the crankcase just a little. The four nuts that hold the cylinder to the crankcase were loose and not allowing the engine enough vacuum to run the fuel pump. Tightened them up and it started right up and took off like a shot. In fact I had to fix the governor to keep the speed down.
