So I found the parts to put together a CDI that kwest0425 had sticky'd to the yamaha gas forum. Didn't have to go to far either since my daughter's little 90cc mini-atv used that same 5 pin CDI. Picked up a couple of diodes while I was in town and 10 minutes later had a CDI wired up hoping it would solve all my woes. Much to my disappointment, it did not. I still only get spark in forward and not reverse. The cart runs just fine in forward with the improvised CDI. Ran it up and down the road for a bit without any issues. Just no spark in reverse. Anyone have any ideas.

Disconnect all 4 feed wires going to the magneto. Measure resistance from each of magneto wires to ground. The meter should show open on all leads to ground.
Measure from W/R to Br. Meter should show open.

I haven't but on the forum for a while but I happened to see your thread. I had exactly the same problem. Start and run in forward, would crank in reverse but no spark. Read my thread. Maybe give you some fresh ideas. Good luck.

Did you ever solve your problem? If so, would love to hear the fix.
