G14 Gas Stumbles on Takeoff
Anybody else have this problem? I have a street legal gas G14. When I have from traffic signal, the engine stumbles a little, and it takes a few seconds for it to get going, resulting in the cars behind me honking their horns. I am thinking about adding something like an excelerator pump or maybe adapting a fuel injector to give it a little shot of gas on start-up. Any ideas?

You might want to look if there is trash in the carb bowl or fuel system in general. Also look if the carb adjustment screw is at the 1 1/2 turns or so.Until I stretched out the tension spring the adjustment screw had vibrated out of adjustment resulting in poor engine performance.

Re: G14 Gas Stumbles on Takeoff
Need more info, but wondering if starter brushes are causing the starter to stall at starting the engine? Dirty/loose ground, or weak battery as well!!?? "Street car" has to run like a top!!
"Street legal" has a special place in my heart!! As My "Spot", has thousands of miles of street use!!... |

Thanks for the response. I have cleaned and adjusted the carb many times, and even replaced it with a new one. No change. It runs real well. It just is slow off of the line.

If it's got oversize tires, it needs Plowmans clutches or at least a UMAX spring in secondary clutch!!
If carb shaft bushing is in good shape, Please use the org carb. Much better!! |

Re: G14 Gas Stumbles on Takeoff
I agree. After no improvement with the replacement carb, I re-installed the original. I am thinking that I will use the aftermarket carb to experiment with ways to solve the problem. The clutch and drive belt are new. I striped the cart down to the frame last year, and totally rebuilt everything before doing a custom job on the body. I do have aftermarket 10 inch wheels, but I had the same issue with the stock wheels.

Re: G14 Gas Stumbles on Takeoff
Then start looking at sealing the air filter box, it has to seal perfect or the motor runs lean, hence a hesatatation in throttle response !!
If you hit the throttle, does the motor crank immediately, or, does it hesitate? That's starter brushes!! |

Thanks Mike, I will check it out, as the cart always smells like it is running lean. The air box is one thing I didn't replace. I just cleaned it up.
