need help G8 INTERMITTENT SPARK

I have a friends Yamaha g-8 cart with a g-2 engine , he switched them around , and it will crank and only spark one time when the pedal is pressed, but if I take a jumped ground wire from the - battery and touch the motor it will spark only once , so if the do morse code with the ground wire it will spark every time I touch it.

so I go back out to start playing with it again it starts and runs has spark everything is good excited I call him and tell him its running ,10 min later its back to the same no spark!!!! I made sure it has a good ground to the engine , good battery charge.
so please ideas ???????????? I'm at a loss

yes that is good info.
problem is I don't know what is what on this and what he changed , he don't remember either.

Coils are known to work when cold and stop when warmed up also pull the connector out of the cdi box and make sure none of the spades are corroded worked on once that would run and then randomly die the ground wire spade coming out of the plug was corroded cleaned it up and fixed the issue

update if I crank it over I get a first time spark ,then nothing but if I take a jumper from battery ground and touch it to the block I get one spark , but if I try morse code it will spark ever time I touch it ????

What happens if you keep that jumper from the battery to the block in place when you try to start the engine?

nothing will not start no spark , its like I am making it spark by pulling it off and on
