G-16 Fuel pump problem
I have a 2000 g16 that otherwise runs fine, but has a fuel pump issue. When it sits overnight, it won't run unless I pull the pulse tube off of the fuel pump and blow into it (toward the engine). When I do, the pulse tube feels as though it is blocked. It takes some effort, but after forcing air through the tube, the blockage goes away and and once re-aatched it runs problem free all day. Sits overnight---have to repeat the process all over again. Any ideas on how to fix it would be greatly appreciated. Thx.

Re: G-16 Fuel pump problem
See if it's sucking gasoline into the tube. Pull your oil dipstick out and see if gas is mixed in there. If so, replace fuel pump.

Re: G-16 Fuel pump problem
If you have to replace it, do not lose your time (and money) with Chinese stuff, go directly to an OEM, less than 55$, not so expensive...

Re: G-16 Fuel pump problem
No gas in the oil. And I replaced the fuel pump to a new oem just prior to this thinking it was shot. It is a newer more circular looking pump instead of the older more square metal pump, though.

Re: G-16 Fuel pump problem
I ride my G-22 year round in Michigan and have that same issue in the cold winter months. I believe the engine warms everything up and when it cools in the freezing temps, moisture forms in the line and freezes. I blow it out when I park it and blow thru it again before I try to start it again. I leave the hose clamp off so it is no big deal. My experience only, maybe not your problem.

How old is your oil? I hear switching to synthetic fixes this.

Re: G-16 Fuel pump problem

Re: G-16 Fuel pump problem
Remove the pulser line and used compressed air to blow through it.

Re: G-16 Fuel pump problem
I'm sorry, The cart DOES start the following day, but Shortly runs out of fuel, Usually stranding me halfway down the driveway. When I flip up the seat, the filter is empty and no go. Pull pulse tube, blow until clear, re-attach and runs fine. Gets a yearly tune-up including plug & oil change. Not sure on valve lash as I pay someone local to do it the last couple years and it's never been discussed.
It's due for svc now, so synthetic is easy to do---what weight/spec? The buggy was running like **** for a whole summer, but never had this problem ----took it to a guy---he said the unit that gives it spark was loose and way out of clearance spec. He repaired that, tuned it up, adjusted gov. to give me some more top end and regular tune up stuff. Have had this problem ever since. |
