My thinking is:

"Crimped and Soldered" is better than "Only Soldered"

and

"Only Soldered" is better than "Only Crimped"

But is also depend on the crimp job - a full circumference crimp with a specialty tool is supposed to give a pretty good connection. A crimp like what I do with a chisel and hammer can make the connection stay on, but really benefits from the added solder.

If you are running a maximum of 100 amps, perhaps heat due to connection resistance will not be an issue.

If you are running 400 amps +, the Trojan study makes some pretty good sense.

I've had crimped and soldered cables that had corrosion creeped 6" up the cable when I went to replace them, so no one way it's the best imo. I think with a proper crimp that encompasses the lug, you would be just fine.

I'm running with crimped only lugs on my lithium setup that has pulled upwards of 400 amps and none on my connections have been warm to the touch at all. YMMV
