I’ve never seen or used a gauge like that, but my gut is telling me it’s wrong. You said it runs great on flat ground but struggles on hills. If 1400rpm was correct you’d never make it above about 6-7mph on flat ground. If even that fast… I’m not exactly sure what kind of RPM the primary clutch begins to close at, but I’d guess around 1000-1200rpm

It shows up more on hills. It slows way down on hills but it does the same thing on the flat too it's like it has power than once it's up to full speed(which isn't full speed) with the pedal to the floor it just mellows out.ill see if I can figure out how fast it was going. I was recently at a campground and had people passing me on the hill that is there and I had the pedal to the floor. I'm sure it's something simple but just trying to narrow my search for the issue.

I think as CP says, you may not be getting a correct reading. You need to check again and dial it in to the point you get maximum deflection on the spring for a true reading. You need to wind the spring out quite a way and back again, dont just stop as soon as it starts swinging around. You are looking for almost a circular / oval motion on the spring. You may just be reading a harmonic of the actual revs. If you have a garden mower with a standard briggs or similar gas engine, practice on that. You should read around 3000 / 3300rpm. If not, then suspect either operator error or the gauge to be faulty, I have never had one go bad yet.

I did the zip tie mod. It worked great I have alot more speed and power. Thanks. I have on question could my accelerator cable be stretched. That is what the issue seems to be as to why I had to do the ziptie mod.

Good find!

More than likely it’s not stretched, it’s usually just not adjusted correctly at the black box.

Remove the zip tie and take the cover off the black box. Adjust the cable coming out of the box with the 2 jam nuts holding it to the wall if the box. Below is how I do it.

Turn the key off and put the shifter in neutral. Slowly press the gas pedal down and watch the microswitches click. Should be around an inch of pedal travel before they click. The carb throttle should not move yet. I like to set it so that the throttle on the carb juuuust starts to move when you press the gas pedal down, about another 1/2” past when the microswitches click.

If you have to press the gas pedal down more than about an inch before the microswitches click, someone has adjusted the metal linkage rods below the black box. Usually nobody touches these but sometimes golf courses, campgrounds, etc will adjust it here to severely limit the power and speed of their golf carts because, well, people are stupid lol
