Exclamation 96 carryall rear end leaking oil, question on rear end assembly

My 96 carryall has been dripping oil out of the bottom of the rear end for awhile now (split rear end). Its winter so I was thinking I could drop the axle/transmission and put new gaskets on the sides. It appears to be leaking where the axle bolts to the passenger side of the case.

Seems simple enough:
drain oil
drop axle
unbolt from case
replace gaskets (part number 1013789)

I plan on painting the axles while I have them off, and I was wondering if there is anything else I should do while I have it off the cart.

I know there are bearings in the rear end, and from what I can tell by the diagram I would have to split the case to get to them. I have no knowledge of how to assemble, let alone disassemble, one of these transmissions. I'm afraid i will take it apart and parts will fall out everywhere and I will never get it back together.

Should I mess with splitting the case?

Am I able to replace the side gaskets without having a bunch of parts fall out everywhere? It looks as simple as unbolting the axle tubes and putting on a new gasket but I'm cautious as to whether or not it could be that simple.

Anything else I should check / replace / regrease / etc while I have it off?

Winter is here so I have plenty of time to do whatever should be done if I'm going to take it apart.

The ones I've taken apart don't have a gasket there. It's just RTV sealant. Nothing will fall out, but it's not as fun or easy as it looks because of the way they built those older units.
I would suggest removing the whole rear axle from the cart so you can stand it up on end, but that does require a bit more work to get the whole thing out.

The input seal into the axle may be the actual source of the leak. You can get to that easy enough by removing the transmission, but it's tight quarters in there to get a tool in to pull the old seal out.

I dropped the axle and left one wheel on to hold it upright (easier with 23" tires"

ended up taking off both axle tubes and replacing with permatex and going the seal between the bottom and top case after it was pointed out to me thats where the actual leak looked like it was coming from.

Time consuming because I painted the axle tubes, cleaned up the case, fought a couple broken bracket bolts, etc.

Got it back together hopefully can put under the cart tonight - it was a little nerve wrecking to take the case apart but got it done. alot of the hardware in/around the brakes was rusty and needed cleaned up or replaced so I did that while I was in there

Sounds like you got it licked!!
Most "quick" jobs turn into something longer due to rust and hidden problems.
