Default 2001 Club Car Pioneer worn engine

I just acquired a 2001 Club Car Pioneer and I literally know nothing about it. . It has a key start but you have to let it die before shifting into gear. It smokes pretty good on start up but quits after it warms up. The serial number is ADO133 and i figured out it's a 2001. The engine tag says Kawasaki family ID YKAXS 3522CA , displacement 352CC. So my question is this considered an FE350 motor? Also is the Pioneer considered a carryall? How can I tell if it was originally a key start or pedal start? And lastly does anyone make a motor conversion to put a Predator or Honda engine in it and if so how involved is that? The cart seems to be solid other than that. I'm new to the forum and any information or help will be appreciated

I dont know about having to shut it off to put it in gear, but I know that with a DS you can disconnect the right switches and the engine will continue to run until you shut the key off. Maybe thats the situation you have?

As far as swapping in another engine, that is probably a clockwise rotation engine and doing an engine swap will require you to put the transmission in reverse to go forward. You could try a website like Vegascarts and see what all they have for engine swaps. (I know they have a kit for the Vtwin motors.)

They will grind switching gears if the idle is too high or the clutches are not working properly.

Smoking on startup and then clearing up is generally either the oil is overfilled or valve stem seals (like $10 in parts).

If it runs good otherwise I wouldn’t spend a thousand or more dollars for what is likely a cheap and simple fix, but that’s just me.

Welcome to BGW!

Yes, 352cc is an FE350, and a Pioneer is an XRT1200, they are originally key start,
and yes, they run under the Carryall base, but more of a side by side rather than the standard golf car.
