Lurch28,

these things are not really chips! they are just plugs with different wiring configurations (ie jumpers). I think there are some diagrams on this site. Somebody on this site had created a switch on the dash that could change from one mode to another.

Great idea, but when changing from 1 setting to another you also have to remember that the "run/tow" switch must be cycled to "activate" the new selection.

I think they moved the run/tow switch to the dash also. was hoping someone would come forward with the thread.

Yeah I used to have a controller cover that did the same thing with a rocker, personally I think you are better off sticking with 1 or the other (hill setup or freedom setup) based on the design of your cart (freedom for low carts, hill setup for lifted carts)

Does the freedom chip actually rob Peter to pay Paul or does it just allow more use of the motor RPM? I didn't feel a torque difference with the freedom chip, just top speed. That's why I ask.

All it does in the Red freedom mode is up the speed limit to 20MPH or so. In All Terrain mode it drop the speed to about 13.
In Mild hill It applies Mild Regen Breaking and limits speed to 14.
In Steep Hill it applies a harder Regen Break and sets top speed around 13.
No Power or torque increase with any of the "chips".
The only way to gain power is to get a bigger motor and or controller.

If you go on any trail then stay in Freedom or All Terrain mode( No Chip) So it does not apply the regen braking. Regen adds heat and heat is what hurts a PDS cart controller and motor. Also Never Stall one.

yes, the Speed chip does rob Peter to pay Paul in a way.... the faster chip reduces torque, So you are trading torque for speed.

We've raced a few fleet carts with a couple with chips and we couldn't tell which one had the chip until we got up in speed. Scotty, I have a feeling we'll be talking soon enough for more power. My cart went from 19 to 16-17 after recently installing a 36-12v converter.
