Strange sound now from motor or gears.
96' Club Car DS. I'm pretty sure it's a series from what I've read. Batteries are very old but I charged them as best as I could just to check everything out. New batteries coming. In the meantime I tried to record the noise and can email to someone who might know something about this. I would post it here but not sure how. When up to speed which is not fast it seems fine. When I back off the pedal there seems to be a sorta clicking noise. Cart just doesn't sound right. Any ideas? Low voltage? Or something worse. Dun dun duh.....

Re: Strange sound now from motor or gears.
sounds like you have a common noise that is caused by the guide ring on the end of the motor. If you have the noise at part throttle, or slow speed, thats more than likely it. Removing the motor and checking it out will confirm it that is your problem.

Re: Strange sound now from motor or gears.
Okay. I'm fairly handy and have never been afraid of taking things apart. Anything I need to know about taking the motor off? If that is the problem, whats the fix? Is it a matter of tightening something up or replacing a part? Thanks for the quick response.

I agree there is a fiber bushing in there that gets worn and has to be replaced and a later model motor would be better if you could get one.It really does not hurt anything its just the slackness that creates the noise.

Re: Strange sound now from motor or gears.
When you replace the guide ring be sure to put some sort of adhesive around the new one when you put it down into the motor. Club Car recommends letting them sit still for 24 hours before using them. I can't remember the name of the glue we use but it smells exactly like super glue, but black in color. I want to say it's made by LocTite but I wouldn't swear to it.

Thanks a lot guys. Just need to figure out how to get the motor out. I may go with a speed upgrade on the motor. Either way I need this guide ring, right? Best place for the part?

Re: Strange sound now from motor or gears.
Where is it located? The reason I ask is mine is making that noise and was told to replace the bumper. May be the wrong diagram. I'll check and fix it.
