Yamaha G1 oil tank. Needed or Not?
I have just bought my newest project, A Yamaha G1 2 cycle cart. It has been modified for pre mixed fuel, so I would like to get rid of the oil tank that is mounted over the left rear wheel. Although the main feed line has been capped off there is still what looks to be an overflow vent line comming from the rearend to the top of the tank. What purpose does this serve?

Welcome to BGW!
You should be able to remove the tank. Leave the vent line on the rear end. |

Re: Yamaha G1 oil tank. Needed or Not?
Thanks for the reply. I guess my concern is that, why would the tank that is used for 2 cycle oil also be used as the rearend overflow? Should they not be 2 completely different types of oil? If so what is the recomended oils for each and what is the optimal gas\oil ratio.

The oil tank is used as a vent for the rear end, not as an overflow. You can remove the tank and leave the vent hose attached.

It came like that when I bought it. They needed to be adjusted though. They pointed toward the trees. The kit looks like the same kit you would use on a club car, I'm guessing.

The best fit would be a set of lights from an EZ-GO work bed type. They even have 5 lug rims for the heavy loads.

Re: Yamaha G1 oil tank. Needed or Not?
I mix my oil 50:1 because I use the same non ethanol gas/Stihl synthetic oil in my chain saws and weed whackers. It is a little rich but has been fine for years. The service manual says the factory oil mixer system uses a ratio of 150:1 up to 200:1. I would be afraid to go that thin, especially if any speed/power modifications have been made. Many folks run 100:1 with no problem.

Re: Yamaha G1 oil tank. Needed or Not?
Mine too had those head lights but they were damaged and i could not find replacements. I think if you look closely, from the back side they are made of 2 pieces.(home made) I have seen several carts with them but have found no source to make them.
i run rec fuel and synthetic VP oil at 50:1 with no issues. It doesn't smoke and my plug has a nice tan color. Ive never fouled a plug. |
