Spindle bushings on 1982 Marathon

Hi,
I'm having some trouble replacing the spindle bushings on my 1982 marathon. I've got the old bushings out pretty easily using a socket and an extension. Both left and right had nearly worn through. I ordered a replacement set that indicated it would work for 1980-2000 carts G&E.

The original worn bushings look like they were brass or bronze. The new ones look to be soft steel. No big deal there, but the new ones won't fit in the spindle. I have a bearing/seal driver set, but I can't even get the new bushings to start. Does anyone know any tricks here? The old ones came out fairly easily.

A followup.. The new bushings DID fit. They felt like they were too big, but a SOLID tap with the driver finally got them started. After that the went in just right. Got all new bearings, repacked, and all new rod ends.
