Pathetic brakes on 2005 TXT
I did use the search, but didn't find much help. I was wondering how well the TXT brakes actually work with 23" tires? My brakes are adjusted up tight, but it takes a lot of pedal pressure to stop the beast. It is to the point that it almost requires 2 feet to push the pedal hard enough and then it feels as if the brakes are about to cam over.
I realize that the bigger tires will make the brakes less effective, but without regenerative braking, I would be afraid to run this thing the 19 mph that it does flat out. I figured I would ask for the experience of others before I tear into it. Maybe the stock brakes just can't handle the extra weight of 4 people with the huge tires? |

Re: Pathetic brakes on 2005 TXT
Just replaced the brake shoes on my 04 TXT with 23" tires last night. My existing pads were down to nothing. My cart runs 23-24mph and it stops great now. Replaced with OEM shoes.

Re: Pathetic brakes on 2005 TXT
Thanks, that is what I was hoping to hear. I just didn't want to tear it down and put new shoes on it if it wasn't going to help. It stops now, but it is a little scary letting the kids drive it when it requires so much pedal pressure to stop. Maybe new shoes will make it good enough to reprogram it to top speed!

The stock brakes were never intended for the added weight and speed. Just like cars....more speed and power requires more/better brakes for safety. I would look into upgrading the brakes...maybe 4 wheel brakes.

yes i agree, every body to spend the money to make it go faster, but no one wants to spend money to make it stop

Thanks guys! I guess I will pull the wheels and drums and check them out. If the shoes are definitely worn out, maybe I will just put that money towards a disc brake kit.

yeah that sounds good, New brakes,, the stock brakes were made to stop a stock cart with 18" tires and speeds of 12 to 14 MPH, and they didn't do a good job at that,

I will agree that a fully loaded 4 passenger cart weighs well over 1600 lbs and that is a lot to stop with just 2 small brake drums. Even a 800 lb 4 wheeler has more braking capacity, but at the same time they are capable of more than double the speed of the average golf cart. 4 wheel brakes would be the ultimate solution! |
