Default '84 2pg rebuild and power upgrade

I'm going to pull the tired 2pg out of my '84 Marathon and rebuild it over the winter and I have a couple of questions.

1. Where is the best place to buy a rebuild kit?
2. Is there anything extra I will need that doesn't come in the kit?
3. Anything I can do while I'm in there to bump the power?
4. I have a fantastic local machine shop so I think I can just have the jug bored but is there a limit?

5. Tips or tricks to avoid issues from those that have experience?

#2. You will need to make or buy a puller to remove the clutch and possibly make/modify a puller to split the crankcase halves.

#4. The largest oversize piston/ring kits that I have seen are 0.5 mm

I have seen those pullers for sale and I think there were some threads on making them.....I'll have to search thanks.

Would it be cheaper to buy a jug and piston vs. machining mine?

I think you can get a jug and piston kit for your engine for about $180.

An oversize piston and rings is about $35 and you will need a $10 gasket kit. How much will your machine shop charge to bore it?

Note- you only need to build/buy the crankcase puller/splitter if you are going to replace the bearings. If you are just replacing the piston and jug, you won't need a puller. But it would be a good idea to replace the crank seals- in which case you will need a clutch puller bolt.

If the crankshaft has any play then you really should replace the bearings ASAP.
