work horse
Got the motor pulled out of my cart today. Started looking it over to see what I have to do to pull the head off. I know the drive clutch needs to come off. What's the best way to pull that off? Drive clutch also is very easy to push in and out with no force. Is it bad? Can it be rebuilt? This is my first cart so its all pretty new to me. Was going to put honda formen running gear in it but decided to just keep it simple.

Re: work horse
ezgo clutches push in pretty easy, what engine do you have? Please give more detail year, model, engine etc, you need a clutch puller for ezgo. Google ezgo clutch puller and you will see what im talking about, diffrent pullers for diffrent years

Its a 04 ezgo mpt1200g. It has the 350cc motor. I'm pretty sure its the MCI motor.

Re: work horse
My understanding was 99 and up was the MCI motor. From what I read the only real difference between MCI and pre MCI is some emissions stuff and the stator.

Re: work horse
best way to tell PRE MCI has a cast iron exhaust manifold that is bolted to the head, MCI engines the exhaust manifold is cast as part of the head

Re: work horse
My cart has the MCI motor. Will heads off pre MCI motors work on MCI motors?

Re: work horse
I think the head works but you need the exhaust manifold that matches whatever head you use.

Re: work horse
What about the 295cc head? Will that work? I used a Polaris drive clutch puller it threaded in but its now stuck. I think the overall diameter of the puller is bigger then what's needed and is preventing the clutch from sliding off and stuck the puller. The nut on the flywheel breaks lose before I can get the clutch puller lose.
Thanks for the help. |

Re: work horse
Don't hold the fly wheel nut to use the clutch puller. You need to use an impact wrench. Get the puller back out, lubricate it well and use the impact wrench. the clutch should come right off, sometimes you have to run it in and out couple of times to get it. Sometimes you can tighten the puller, hit the end of it to loosen the clutch. Good luck.
