1988 ezgo GXT
I rebuilt the top end of this motor and replaces the carb with a new one. Not it wont stay running without carb cleaner. I am pretty sure the carb needs to be adjusted. Any suggestions?

Are you sure you are getting an ample supply of fuel to the carb? With the fuel line off of the carb inlet, does fuel pump out the hose when the engine is cranking over?

I got it running but now I cant get it in reverse and it keeps overheating. Any suggestions? The fan is missing a few blades and i think I might be missing something from the back of the cover...

Re: 1988 ezgo GXT
are you sure you got the rings in the right side up? If not, the symptoms are pretty much exactly what You are describing ... if they didn't slide in easily (the piston and rings) then chances are they're upside down (one or both)
inside the front cover you have the fan which bolts to the flywheel and that's basically it, btw - def a bad idea to run a fan with busted blades Also, did you clean out your fuel lines, pump, filter, etc prior to installing the new carb? It's common for the movement, jarring, etc of fuel line removal, engine removal, etc to bust loose crud in the lines, pump, etc - doesn't matter how new the carb is, if anything gets in there you WILL plug jets quickly ... I'm betting on rings backwards though (from experience it will run like crap if at all and only in forward if they're wrong) ... best to pull it apart and check before you keep messing with it too, or you risk messing up your new cylinder and will have to essentially start over with all new parts |
