06 c\c only charges for ~45 minutes
OK guys let me start by saying that I have been lurking here for several months trying to diagnosis my carts problem with no luck. I have a 06 club car precedent and charger will only charge for about 45 minutes to an hour and shut down. I have tried bypassing OBC by jumping in from gray wire to last negative battery post and jumping relay in charger. Charger will still shut off to soon. I have replaced all components (relay, circuit breaker, and rectifier) in charger and have tried swapping out chargers and still getting same results. Voltage on pack is about 48.6 volts, continuity across red wire behind receptacle is good; charger plug is not loose in receptacle, gray wire is tight behind OBC, I have 120 volts at charger wall outlet, after plugging charger in cart there is a delay before charger starts, negative wire is run through OBC, i have reset the OBC. What I have noticed is that the amp reading on charger is not steady; there is some movement in it.
The kicker is every once in a while the charger will charge correctly (about 12-14 hrs) and bring batteries to about 12.8 volts each. I just don't understand!!! I work shift work so I'll be checking this thread periodically for suggestions and will post results. Big thanks in advance for the help. |

. . . if you are getting same result with different chargers, I would be suspect of the OBC or possibly a bad battery/cell in the pack . . .

Yes, same result with both chargers. If it was a bad cell, why would it fully charge sometimes

On that same note, when bypassing the OBC, I thought the charger would never shut off on its own

May be a stupid question, but what does the water level look like. I notice my charge times get short as the water level drops.

Re: 06 c\c only charges for ~45 minutes
Problem found
Found a used OBC (version 5.4 I think) on eBay for 50 bucks, so I figured I would give it a try. After first charge cycle the batteries were at full voltage, so far so good and it's been installed for about 3 weeks. What still doesn't make since to me is why when I would jumper the relay in the charger, it would still shut off after about 45 minutes and batteries were not at full charge? Oh well, life is good for now. |
