Default Stupid + Battery = MeltDown / Can Fix?

OK so first off, I take full responsibility for actions. When I had put the cable on a few days ago I told myself to remember to tighten it. Obviously I was not listening. I drove 1/2 mile down hill to put a load on it coming back up. Almost back to the garage it just stopped. Looking around I found the issue, a melted lug where I forgot to tighten the nut. The SS bolt was hanging with a lump of melted lead about a 1/2" above the battery.

But I can fix the problem even if I can not fix my stupidity! I found that 3/4" copper fits around the terminal and carefully using my torch to heat the bolt and melted solder to refill the space. Then I filed it flat and it was done.

It sure LOOKS good. Let's hope it's trouble free for a long time. Nice work!

Awesome! It seems as the copper ring will actually make it stronger as the lead/solder would have to compress against it if the bolt ever tried to rotate.

Of course it might not make any difference but it looks strong and a great fix!

Thanks for sharing!

It is definitely stronger though if it got too hot (form some moron not tightening the nut) it would melt anyway.

Don't sweat the small stuff, we all make mistakes, it's the only way to learn sometimes.

Good job on the repair, best I've seen!
