1999 club car will not charge

1999 48 volt. Golf cart sat idle for 2 weeks without charging. Turned cart on everything seemed normal when I backed up and when I put in forward it just completely died and would not move. I put cart on charge and immediately radio started to smoke so I unplugged charger and proceeded to disconnect radio. It appears that radio shorted out and drained batteries during that time. Batteries so dead that lights won't come on and lights makes a buzz/clicking sound. I understand that batteries can get so dead that charger will not come on. I opened charger and bypassed relay to get around this and after several hours it did still did not charge. during ths time while charger was plugged in tne needle on the charger amp gauge would barley move off zero and pulsate a little. batteries have some age on them buy were still doing pretty good for their age. I want to make sure there are no other problems before i spring for new batteries and still have same problem. Why will it not charge? Please help?

what model is cart ?? a DS or reagan ? is F&R a lever or rockerswitch...you need a total of 38 volts for charger to come on so after you make sure you have enough voltage and water level in batteries is ok and cables are all good tight and clean try your charger see what it does.....if you can try your charger on another cart that would be great cause if it works you know for certain problem is in cart.....anyways if your charger still dosn,t work its quite possible OBC went bad but the smokin radio scares me did radio work ok pryor? if cart was just sitting did you check to make sure no mice or critters climbed in there and ate wires? these has to be a reason it smoked the radio.............................

It has F&R rocker switch, Radio was on a toggle switch but i think the hot wire to radio for memory may have caused the problem. radio has had some problems in the past for getting wet. Anyway radio is now out scenario as it is dsconnected.

I had charger checked and they said itwas OK...

I read a post about resetting the OBC... do I need to try that?

you can try but i,m not certain its going to work on your cart......by the way its a 1999 reagan cart......you need to eliminate the batteries and cables as a problem and at this point i,m guessing but if your charger is good then OBC.....can you check your pack voltage? you need a digital voltage meter and check at the charge receptical and right off the pack...........also check the fuse on top of receptical and the one in the grey wire make sure both are good................................

Fuse in grey wire ok, battery cables and connections ok, don't have my digital volt meter with me as I'm at beach, will have to bring back next week.

ok you just want to eliminate batteries as an issue before moving on but its not an uncommon problem on that cart.......wow the beach.....where at??........its in the 30,s here.....................

Im having the same problem on a '06 CC Presedent. Mine has been sitting about 3 months. So if I read your post correctly if the batteries are to low the charger wont charge? Also I see bulging in the sides of the batteries so I think I need to change them?

some bulging is normal......are they 8 volt or 12 volt batteries? and how old? date will be stamped into lead on terminals like D-06 which would be april of 2006 so with that in mind find the date and what voltage.......and yes you need 38 volts before charger will come on so if you have a digital meter check what voltage you have and if they are 12 volt batteries you can use a 12 volt charger and charge each one also while your at it check water levels and if needed use distilled water and fill to approx 1/8 inch above plates.........no need to take any cables off unless you just want to clean ends and to be safe put cart in tow mode it will still charge..............if 8 volt batteries you can still use a 12 volt charger but each battery for 20 minutes each only and DO NOT leave un-attended......after your done charging try your cart charger if everything is ok it should come on if it dosn,t there are other issues................your cart is a 2006 so unless the batteries have been changed they are 6 years old and if they are 12 volt thats not bad most sets only last about 4 years.......if they are 8 volt depending on how they were maintained you might get another 2 years out of them.................post results when your done we can go from there..................................
