Hot Controller

Hey guys,

After cruising at about 1/4 to 1/2 throttle for a while my cart shutdown.. I let the cart cool down and then it was fine again.. I'm guessing it was thermal shutdown... My mods are in my sig and I'm also running 4g wires and a parallel 4g for the ground. When I run her wide open I never have this problem.

Are the controllers not meant for slow speeds and that why they heat up?

Has anyone installed a heat sink and fan on the back of their controllers?

i would try a fan if you can or some way to run some more air to the controller.........it could be just the fact what you have done to it and where you live?? try it on a cooler day or at night when cooler see if it acts up that will tell you.....................................

The original controller has a heat sink that must be kept and used when you upgrade your controller to an aftermarket one. You are also encouraged to use thermal grease between the back of the controller and the mounting point which is opposite of the heat sink. These help keep aftermarket controllers cool. If your controller doesn't have a heat sink, then the person who did the upgrade may have removed it. I would definitely look for one and install it with thermal grease as a medium to transfer the heat.

Yeah I never kept the heat sink from the old controller do to the difference in size. My controller sits on the back of the battery bucket, so maybe its not getting enough air?

I might just try to find a heat sink and slap it on there?.. Any ideas on how to attach the heat sink to the backplate.. Is there some type of high temp adhesive that will transfer heat?
