Question 86 Club cart ds is full speed right away

Just bought a 86 ds Club Cart for getting around the yard. Problem is it goes full speed as soon as i touch the accelerator pedal. I heard from someone it could be a solenoid issue, but I'm new to golf cats. Please advise.

Thanks,

Fipps

From just what I have read on here, it sounds like your first three solenoids aren't working. They are probably stuck open, so it jumps right to the last one right away. I have just read this on this forum, so I have no experience with this type of cart, but you should be able to replace the bad solenoids and you should be good to go.

Sounds to me as if you have some bad resistor coils. Refresh my memory, but your should have only 1 solenoid. Your coils take the added load and dissipates the heat. Sounds like the voltage misses the coils and goes right to the motor.

An 86 has a 5 solenoid speed control system. Jack it up and remove the seat. Operate the gas with your hand you should hear each of the 5 solenoids 'click'.
If the first one clicks then there is a long lag (lots of peddle travel) until the cart jets off then all 4 of the speed solenoids are bad. The 1st on the driver's side is the master. It must click first.

to add to scotty,s post you also have a silver box with red end caps mounted on frame rail by front left batteries, there are 5 microswitches in there and a sliderboard if its not solenoids its in that box..........the micros are stacked one against the other in order and each one activates a solenoid.................................

Got four bad solenoids. Can I fix them or should I just get new ones?

Unless the 5th one is new, get all 5, They are all over 25 yrs old.... They don't come off easy either, start spraying the bolts with liquid wrench or ? while you wait for delivery.

its impossible to have 4 bad solenoids if cart is running........3 bad ones, the last one for high speed and reverse has to be good but regardless i agree replace all 5 of them.....................................

Maybe it is the micro switches which have failed, then?
