Default 2006 Presedent

I bought a light kit for my 2006 cc precedent. It is a gas, and I got the gas harness with it but no instructions for that kit. I was wondering why I need the rectifier supplied with the kit when the cart has 12 volts dc. I guess what I am getting at is, Cant I just install the light kit and run it off of the existing power? I would appreciate it if someone could shed a little light on the subject for me. Thanks. BTW Awesome site

it looks like a rectifier. The terminals that have wires on them are marked + and - and the other two terminals are marked AC. I did talk to a guy that said he thought it was a regulator because the generator puts out 15 volts and the lights will burn out. I would think that if it was putting out that kind of voltage a person would cook the battery in it. I will be checking the voltage on it when I get it in the shop. I just went and picked it up tonight. I will post my findings.

Question Re: 2006 Presedent

I just ran the part number and it says it is a 35amp full wave rectifier. One would only need that if you needed to turn ac power into dc power. Confused still as to why you would need that in there if you already have dc power.

Hi, That part is also used in my light kit. It is in fact a 35 amp diode bridge. My instructions call it a voltage regulator. Only two wires are connected to it. To my understanding, they are using it to reduce the voltage by the value of the diode voltage drop inside the package, either .7 volts or 1.4 volts depending on which terminals are used. And yes, you need to install it.

If you want to pass along your email, I will send you the instructions for the Precedent light kit I installed.

Good job Ed!

I knew "key start" carts have a "voltage limiter" for their headlights,
it sounds like it's used as the exact same thing for this application!

Cool. I guess I didn't think of using a rectifier or diode for a regulator. I was mostly concerned about what I connect to the two extra terminals but I guess nothing. Thanks for the help. Thinking about starting on it today but my garage doesn't have heat and it is 5 degrees here today. Thanks Again

Thanks Ed. I got your email. It helps me a lot. I do have the lights installed and I mounted the regulator to a piece of steel under the front end but away from moving parts and such. I am adding a radio to my cart as well and was wondering where I should tie that in but your schematic shows where to do that. It is a lot of help. I did post some pictures of what I did so far. Got a lot of stuff to put in the cart but it will be great when we are cruising around with it. Thanks again.
