Default Replacing Tow/Run Switch Yamaha G19

I was taking off the wires the other day during my remodel and the connector broke on the OEM switch. Replacement is $30.00. I had an extra toggle switch that is a 50amp toggle that fits in the spot perfectly. Would this not work or is there a special reason a replacement is $30.00?

In the picture, the stock switch is on the left.

Thanks guys..
Chris

Yeah, $30 for that switch is ridiculous. What you have will work fine.

When I had a run/tow on a G29 go bad I replaced the switch with a wirenut. I then installed a marine battery cutoff switch like the m6006 pictured (for about 25 bucks) next to the pack negative.

The only thing not going through the switch are the leads to the charging receptacle.

There is a reason for the switch cost. It has silver contacts for reliable service under a wide range of conditions. Conditions that include carrying the large in rush of current required to precharge the capacitors in the controller. A standard switch will work, but for who knows how long.

The two wires that hook up to the TOW/RUN Switch is likely 16 gauge at best. That's like 10-13 amps right? I appreciate the feedback. Thanks guys.

"inrush" = the sudden surge of power (and arc on switch contacts) needed to fill capacitors that can absorb energy super quickly.
