Default Yamaha G22E won't run

My Yamaha G22E has developed a problem. When I hit the accelerator the cart moves forward for a second and then I hear a click from the motor compartment and it goes dead. After that there is no response when I press the accelerator. I can flip the "Tow" toggle switch to reset it and the same thing happens when I press the pedal.
It ran fine up until this, but I haven't used it since February. Sometime between then and now, the battery charger was unplugged and the cart batteries went dead. I refilled them with distilled water but it still won't run. Any ideas?

Sounds like the solenoid is working and the controller detects a problem either with the batteries dropping too low under load or perhaps a motor issue, causing it to lock out operation until you reset it

Sure sounds like battery problems to me. Gonna need to see how low the voltage drops when pedal pressed.

I have 52.2 volts across the entire battery pack. I will check to see what it drops to when I accelerate.
