Back in the day, EZGO's, Yamaha, had the issue of the back lash noise. At that time a slide hammer was all that was needed to get the coupler off. What we would do to prevent the problem again is we would put a big washer on the armature , then press the coupler on. This would put the coupler onto the input shaft more and you would never have the issue again.
