Great, I would hate for things to be too easy. Or predictable.

New F/R switch arrived today so I swapped out the hard plastic aftermarket module. As anticipated it made no difference in the voltage but oooh, that soft-touch rubbery OEM feel... I can honestly say it's all been worthwhile.

If (yes, I'm back to "if") I do these reverse lights, any reason to not tap off of the 12vdc at the switch itself, and not hassle with the buzzer, voltage stepping, etc?

You're both correct. Can confirm, that despite the 12VDC stamp on the part, the F/R switch is passing 48, per the meter. What's the phrase, "believe nothing you hear and only half of what you see?" I'll believe your half.

And the meter.

Closing the loop here in case anyone else gets any harebrained ideas that would risk shorting the reverse buzzer.

I received the replacement buzzer, and it works perfectly directly against the span of batteries. But when installed to its proper wiring harness, it gives out only the faintest, sorriest, most plaintive whisper of a beep you'd ever almost not hear.

Volts are showing 48-50 on the meter. I didn't attempt to meter amps because a.) it's not going to change my plan to not do anything about it, and b.) I've screwed it up enough already and screwing it up more might make me do something about it.

Other than the beeps being nearly inaudible, nothing else seems to be malfunctioning. I'll just go "BEEEEEEEEEEEEEP" while in reverse from here on out. Should save me a few bucks when I invite the neighbors over for our next party. I'll put it towards my Riot Kit budget.
