Default 96 G14 Motor Removal

Does anyone have any tips on removing the motor on a 96 yamaha G14? Do I have to remove the body?

No you should not have to remove the body, just the motor access panel in the back...which may be difficult if you have a back seat installed. Remove your main positive and negative off the batteries...mark four wires going to motor so reinstall is easy...then remove those four nuts holding wires to motor. Three bolts are holding motor to rear end I believe they are 10 mm wrench. You can then wiggle motor back and forth sliding away from rear end(some people wrap a strap around it to help with awkward way motor is placed)...just be prepared when motor comes off it weighs A LOT so don't think it won't pull you down if you aren't braced.

1996 so 25 years old.
Make sure you slowly remove the nuts holding the cables to the motor makig sure the studs don't spin with the nut.
Hold the cable or thin wrench on the bottom nut.
You don't want the stud to spin internally.

There just doesn't seem to be enough room because of the brace over top of the motor. Didnt try yet.

You may have to raise the rear and drop it down underneath instead of pulling through the cover...the cover is removed to easily get to the nuts and bolts on top...I've never removed a body on a yamaha to get a motor out and I'm a Yamaha dealer...I HAVE had to remove the inner fender well on a few models to pull it off however if it doesn't want to come out easily...

OR I think based on that pic you can remove two center batteries and take it out through the center under the seat...

I ended up taking the motor out through the wheel well. Was pretty easy once the wheel well and tire were removed.
