bypassing govenor
Tell me if I did something wrong. I have seen a lot about zip tying the govenor back, but was not sure if you would still have throtle control. I took the cable that leads to the governer arm from the black box and put it to the carb by hooking the spring to the carb linkage, adjusted the cable out of the black box to get smooth linkage from closed to open. Is there anything wrong with this or do I just miss the idea of the zip tys? Also is there an aftermarket rev limiter that allows higher revs? New to forum thanks for replys.

Re: bypassing govenor
I guess what you did was ok but a little convoluted. The zip tie trick takes only minute compared to re-routing the cable.
I'm not aware of an aftermarket rev limiter but you really should get a tach fitted to your cart before you wreck the engine. I use an Equus on mine and am careful not to exceed 3500 rpm for any length of time to avoid damage. There is a thread on this forum regarding rev counters (search is your friend) which you could read and also a sticky ^ ^ ^ up top regarding speeding up your cart. Chris. |

Re: bypassing govenor
The rev limiter is there to keep the engine from reving too high into the danger zone. An aftermarket rev limiter that allowed a higher rev would defeat the purpose of the original limiter. If you dont want the limiter just disconnect it. But beware, your engine will not last too long. I zip tied my gov spring to just under the limiter, only 12mph, but that is good enough for me, and my engine is safe. Consider high speed gears instead, and save you engine.
Remember something else, golf carts were never designed to go very fast "much over 12-13 mph" and get pretty unstable at anything higher than that without suspension mods. They have a very short and narrow wheel base, and are a bit top heavy. Almost all the cart wrecks on youtube were by young kids going way too fast, or lifted carts going way too fast. |
