Default G-19 steering box rattle

I have a lifted G-19 and I am noticing that the steering box rattles a little while hitting bumps. I can see the steering shaft moving in and out of the box when the tires are moved. Is there an adjustment in the Yamaha steering box to eliminate this, or will I need to come up with a backyard fix? Before tearing into it, I thought I would ask first.

Thanks,

SHMO

Shmo
there is a big bolt head on the end of the box with an anadized ring or something (don't recall,it's not in front of me) but look at the end of the steering box.

Thanks, Mike. I had a hunch, but I thought I would ask before I took the time to tear into it. Should be a slam dunk then.

Ya. know, pump the box full of grease, through the hole that the adjustment screw with the 10mm lock nut is on top of the box, with a grease gun. (sorry worded badly) Hope you got the point. But that might fix alot of problems. Then adjust that pitman arm screw back to where it is suppose to be.

Guy's, the "nut and lock ring" on the front of the steering box if for adjusting the preload on the steering shaft bearings. I still beleive best solution for steering play and clunk is to take the top plate off, pack box with grease then when adjusting the pitman set screw, (with cart jacked up) turn your steering wheel (with a finger) lock to lock, as soon as you feel a bind or flat spot, back off the screw till you dont. Hope that helps.

That helps a bunch. Plus, it's raining in the PNW so it's probably a good day to work inside.

Thanks,

I do know him. He sold me this cart as well as another. Plus I have bought some parts and pieces from him over the last couple years. Whenever custom golf carts come up in conversation, He mentions someone from down south that he deals with at Yamaha. Ever since I joined this site, in the back of my mind, I was wondering if that guy was on here. Can I assume you work for Yamaha?
