I know that during the winter months, my cart starts just as yours does, (pump the pedal to get it to turn over beyond the compression stage) and once my battery gets "up to charge" my cart starts fine! In the DS carts it's a group 70 (size) battery, your 272 may be a different size, but yes... it's basically a "sealed" car battery. |

Re: Drive belt question
Place cart in neutral. Make sure key switch is off. Roll the drive belt off the driven clutch that is in the back. Some are tight but they will come off this way,. Next, loosen the 1/2 nut on the bottom of the starter/generator. Do not remove completly.Next loosen the 9/16 mounting bolts on top. Pull on the belt, and enought slack will come in the belt to get it off. Reverse procedure for installation. Hints. get the 9/16 bolts pretty tight, gently pry the generator up until the belt is tight, then tighten the 1/2 inch bolt. By pushing on the belt it should have about 1/16 inch give. go back the the 9/16 bolt and finish tightening.

Re: Drive belt question
Why chock the wheels?
for safety's sake... there "were" times that I've set the brake, and worked on my cart, for some ungodly reason, something (a foot, a wrench. a pry bar) always seems to hit the go pedal releasing the brake, I've found, that's it's difficult getting your hands and fingers out of a tight area fast enough when the cart starts to roll!
