Default G16 Engine Bearing Removal

Ok,

I have one more question. I have finally got my new shop almost together and I started ripping my smoking engine apart last night. I tore it all down but I am stuck on how to remove the 2 small bearings in the engine housing. I was thinking slide hammer and pull them out but I couldn't get it and I ran out of time to mess with it. So if anyone has any ideas that would be cool. Also when the shop gets a little more complete I'll post a couple pics.

Thanks
Pete

You better! Can't help you with your problem, never had one apart yet. Did you take extra time to notice where and how the balancer shaft timing mark lines up?

Good ta hear from ya! Mike

I hear ya! I've had Snapon slide hammer kit that couldn't get behind the bearing and case. If the bearings are bad (are they?) I would tack weld a nut onto the bearing and use a bolt (as big as you can get to fit inside the inner bearing race) , then heat the block case with a small propane torch and tighten the bolt carefully. If they sound good, don't mess with them, just pack them with grease.

I use a socket and hammer. 2 blocks of wood under the case. Then large socket to pound out the bearing. I have found that works best for me. As far as the timing goes their are idiot dots on all sprockets. dot to dot

He's talking about the cam and balancer bearings, there is no acsess to "drive" them out with a socket and hammer. Idiot dots on all sprockets?, Are you talking about crank/cam/balancer alignment marks?

Thanks guys.... I will try the bolt trick. I am replacing all the bearings and the 2 seals cause I"m in there and don't want to do it again. These bearings are probably good but I always take a project on step more so I don't have to do it again.

Thanks again
Pete
