G14E Throttle problem
Hey guys, I'm Cody, new to the forum. I recently purchased a 1995 G14E. The throttle doesn't work the way it should. You can press it about 1/4 of the way down, and it takes off like a shot! Then it falls dead if you press it all the way down. From what I've read, it points to the speed sensor.
So my question is this. Is the speed sensor the component that is located under your feet? About half way between the pedals and the controller? I think Green/blue/white wires right? If that's the correct part, where is the best place to find a replacement? Or can you rebuild the sensor? Anyway, thank you guys for your time. I'm just trying to find out why the throttle is so crazy. It's not smooth at all. Cody |

Re: G14E Throttle problem
The one under your feet is called the throttle potentiometer.
To check it find the wires under the seat and unplug them Take your multimeter and put the probes on 2 of the 3 wires and slowly push on the throttle pedal. Your meter should read up and down with the pedal Hope that helps! |

Re: G14E Throttle problem
The speed control unit is under the forward and reverse switch.
A large metal box. You can get them rebuilt at a yamaha dealer for around $300 Or you can get a new one. |

Re: G14E Throttle problem
Mine read 0 when the pedal was not pushed.
And I think all the way pushed in it was reading 900 or so. I think your just looking for a change on your meter The farther you push the pedal the higher the number. Im pretty sure that's all your looking for. |

Re: G14E Throttle problem
I'm also sorting out a similar problem with a G14e that won't go. In testing the throttle potentiometer, I should be looking for a change in ohm reading as the pedal is pressed? I am performing this test with the key on and the t.p. disconnected from the controller..is this correct? And I can test any 2 of the 3 wires, correct?
Thanks to anyone who takes a moment to answer and get me pointed in the right direction. Brian |

Re: G14E Throttle problem
Yes you are looking for a rise on your meter when you are pressing the pedal.
The farther you press it the higher the your meter should go. And I believe you can check 2 of the 3 wires. If it checks ok it could be your speed contol unit. A guy on here named ScottyB can help you more than I can. Hope that helps. |
