Re: Project
And here's the EZGO . Engine is in 2 boxes --- has a broken piston skirt. Not sure if I'm going to get this one fixed up or part it out. Is there much call for Marathon parts?
Almost zero rust on either cart ... just a few small patches of surface rust -- nothing structural. |

Re: Project
Today I replaced the spark plug with a proper new NGK. Turned the engine over and got no spark. :-( Since I am simply jumping the ignition switch (no key yet) could that have something to do with not getting spark at the plug? Or, since the engine is turning can I assume the spark should be there?
How can I check the coil? I looked at it and there are 3 wires connected to it from the wiring harness --- orange, red and black. Am I missing something? Next test to perform? |

Re: Project
Raining too hard most of the day to get much done on the G2. I did a quick test of the compression and it is about 105 --- I think that is adequate, isn't it?
Still looking for advice on how to test the coil and igniter --- that seems to be the best place to look for answers to a "no spark" condition, isn't it? |

Re: Project
105 is low for compression, should be around 170 ish. I took my coil and igniter to the Yamaha shop, they tested the coil, said it was working at that particular moment. Said there is no test for igniter. If all other parts test good, then it is suspected the igniter is bad.

Re: Project
Thanks, Mike. Closest Yamaha shop around here is Wentachee -- about 140 miles. Unless I go to Canada -- probably one withing 50 miles or so. But I'll see about pulling the parts out of my running G2 (I sure hate to mess with a running rig!) and switch them out temporarily.

Re: Project
one part at a time. Good way ta go!
Another thing, compression may come up after it runs a bit. So wouldn't consider it a problem yet. Are you making it turn over by pushing the accelerator pedal? Pedal switch triggers ignition as well as starter. I think. |

Re: Project
I have jumped the starter switch (the lights come on) and then push the pedal. But I've been thinking it over and don't believe I had the throttle all the way down/open ... and, if I remember correctly, that will give a false compression reading.

Re: Project
Your correct on the WOT/compression theory. But I'm thinking about the ignition not being hot. So, it turns over when you push the throttle, right?

Re: Project
Yes -- turns over very strongly (new battery, of course). No unusual sounds, no grinding, no dragging. Just doesn't fire. I haven't begun to check the fuel lines yet. I wanted to get spark before I move on to the next thing -- if I jump around from one system to another I'm afraid I'll get lost and forget where I am. My memory is not what is used to be.
