Question What Engine Does my 91 Club Car Have

I have a 91 Club Car DS, Gas. The engine appears to have an overhead valve engine. Is it the FE 290 or 350? From what I've found, the 91 model has a 9 hp flat head kawasaki engine, but the engine in my cart has a overhead valve engine with a flat panel air filter. Was there an engine change in 1991 and maybe the later 91 models switched to an overhead valve engine? The carb has some markings on it that has a FE on it. Where do I find the engine model?

if you have the flat air filter box and the carb is sorta on drivers side its the fe-290 but 91 should have the kf-82 flathead...............its possible someone put a newer engine in it because the flatheads are so hard to come by.........one way to tell for sure is does it have an oil filter? drivers side under carb? flathead didn,t use oil filter it just had a splash arm in it..........................as far as i know they didn,t put the newer engines in until 1992........................................

Hey thanks for the info, just found out that the cart is actually a 92 model, it does have the flat panel filter. So I'm gues it's the FE290.

IF... it has an "OHV" on the valve cover... for a 92, most likely it's an FE290!
(FE350's didn't start until 95)

This cart will start and run for a while then just shut down. You can crank it over and over and will not start. You can let it set for a while and it will start right up. I checked to see if it was getting spark, and it's really weak. So this cart has two ignition components, an ignitor and a coil. Would you know which of the two would most likley be the problem?

Thanks shadowman, my club car is a 92 model, and it does have the FE-290. Thanks for getting me on the right track. One other question, would you know why the ignition igniter would be continually going bad?
