Old motor question
I have an old metalist. motor sets in line with the cart. Motor has 4 terminals in a row. They are A1A2F1F2. I took all wires off motor made a jumper from A2 to F1 applied 12 volts to A1 and F2 the motor run in reverse. I change pos. and Neg. and the motor still runs in reverse. What is wrong??
Sorry I've never had a motor do this before. Sonny |

Re: Old motor question
That is exactly what it should do!!! REversing the + and - reverses the armature volts and the field current so it still goes the same direction. You need to reverse either F1 an F2 OR A1 and A2 to change direction.

Re: Old motor question
Oh yeah, duh..... Otherwise the motor would only need 2 wires going to it.

Re: Old motor question
I think Volt_ampere got it right. Otherwise the F&r could reverse the direction with only 2 wires going to the motor. If it worked that way, the factory would save the wire & complexity by just running 2 wires to the motor (and saved money, copper aint free).

Re: Old motor question
Ok I'll try that tomorrow. Don't know if I have every had this problem. Most of the time, if it will run in one direction it will run in the other. This one want.
Thanks Sonny |
