96 EZGO TXT Golf Cart Only Works When Connected to Another Cart
I have a 96 TXT 36 Volt EZGO Cart bought from estate sale. Batteries were completely dead so charged them 2 at a time with battery charger until voltage was between 5 and 6. Then charged with the automatic charger to get full charge. Checking the voltage across the Main + and _ I get around 34-36 but when I push the pedal I hear the solenoid click but cart doesn't move forward or backward. Thought it was solenoid problem but when I connected the batteries via jumper cable to another cart the cart will go forward and reverse (only with cables connected) so solenoid is good right? Testing the voltage across with the jumper cables connected its still around 36 or so but works this time with cables attached.
I am confused why it works when connected with jumper and not when the batteries are fully charged. Any suggestions? |

Chances are one or more of your batteries is showing a full charge but when a load is put on it it or they are dropping out. Without the jumper connected put a volt meter on the pack and hit the go pedal. I would guess the voltage is dropping way off.

Any battery that was let go completely dead and left to sit for an y time is going to be greatly compromised and likely in need of replacement. Put the meter on each battery individually and try to go. Note the standing voltage and the dropped to voltage when you try to go.
Post those numbers here for all 6 batteries. |

Re: 96 EZGO TXT Golf Cart Only Works When Connected to Another Cart
Connected the meter to the batteries individually and noted initially one battery dropped charge from 6 to around so I switched it out with a different battery. I charged them up and all held charge between 6 and 7 EXCEPT for the first battery (which has the main positive on it and was different than the one I changed out) which went from 5.5 to -10.00. Is this normal? Also when my charger is plugged in the amp meter starts at 0 and slowly increases to around 10, is this normal?
Thank you all for the help! |
