There is no doubt the previous owner or whoever wired the lights, did not have a clue... I have been wiring and discovering all sorts of mysteries.
I will try what was posted here...thx for the help. Sent from my Nexus 6 using Tapatalk |

Need some more help on this one....
I hooked up LED light bulb and it hardly came on... Without light assembly connected, I took DVM and got 12 volts to stripped wires...good to this point. When I check voltage on the light assembly with red to red and black to black, I get 3 or so volts, thus the very faint LED coming on. What would cause the voltage to knock way down when testing on the assembly? Sent from my Nexus 6 using Tapatalk |

Re: Rear light assembly
make sure you are getting good ground
you may need to make a better ground to the assembly |

How do you make a better ground to assembly?
Can I just solder a ground wire onto side base of the socket? Sent from my Nexus 6 using Tapatalk |

Re: Rear light assembly
yes .. thats what i would do
if you want to test it before ... just strip a wire and put it in the socket top and insert the bulb , then hook to ground |

Re: Rear light assembly
I had trouble with sockets like that for trailer bulbs. The "spring" that keeps the bottom of the socket close to the bulb prong(s) wasn't strong enough to make good contact after inserting the bulbs. I also grounded the socket to the frame, bare metal.

Thanks for the help.
The black ground wire that was riveted inside the rear light assembly (see photo above) was apparently not grounded well... on both light assemblies. I would only get about 3 volts using that as ground... I put a new ground to the light assembly socket and the LED bulbs work great now. Sent from my Nexus 6 using Tapatalk |
