Default alxe fluid help?

I think I used Royal Purple 30w synthetic oil in my ‘01 DS. I’d have to check...

I use valvoline 30w synthetic gear oil.
Use gear oil, not motor oil.
Any quality gear oil will work.

Most any gear oil will work. Gear oil has a viscosity formulation that is different than motor oil, though similar.

Rear End Lube Change:
22oz's of 85w/90 synthetic rear end grease. Mobil 1 or any good quality type will work fine.

Jack it up, pull the fill plug which is up the side of the housing. Then pull the drain plug and drain. (check oil for any foreign material)

Reinstall the drain plug, stick your manual $8 lube pump tube (from Advance Auto Parts) in the fill hole (do not attempt to use the vent hole), lower the cart back level and pump it until it reaches the threads of the fill hole. (22 ounces + or - will get you there)

I thought 85w/90 was for gas and 30w was for electric?

That is what it says in the manual. People use all kinds of different oils in their rear ends

I did "a little bit" of research on this a while back...
I've read that the viscosity between SAE 30w motor oil and 80w-90 gear oil aren't that much different between the two, (depending on the climate area)
BUT... gear oil has an additive for the lube to stick to the gears to keep them from a "dry start up".
Club Car suggests SAE 30w motor oil in electric cart transaxles because in colder climates, it puts less strain on the motor at a cold start up then gear oil would.
